Our Cotopaxi National Park day tour begins in Machachi, Ecuador, one of the best locations for acclimatization before visiting the Ecuadorian Andes. From Casa del Montañero, we drive approximately one hour toward Cotopaxi National Park surrounded by spectacular volcano landscapes and panoramic mountain views.
Inside the park, travelers enjoy views of Cotopaxi Volcano, Sincholagua, Rumiñahui, and volcanic formations created by past eruptions. The first stop is Limpiopungo Lagoon at approximately 3,830 meters above sea level, where guests can enjoy a short acclimatization walk and nature photography.
The tour then continues to the Cotopaxi parking area at approximately 4,500 meters. From there, travelers hike gradually to José Rivas Refuge located at approximately 4,864 meters above sea level. Depending on weather conditions, the tour may continue toward the Cotopaxi Glacier at approximately 5,000 meters.
